Last month INVU updated their series 6 platform to 6.20. Whist INVU’s previous update introduced the new Link Share functionality (Providing “customers with a simple, secure and GDPR compliant way of sharing documents stored in their Invu Document Management system”), this release is rather more of a maintenance update including essential quality enhancements which will improve the usability of customers’ systems.

Whilst predominantly addressing known issues on the existing INVU platform, there are a couple of 6.20 headlines worthy of mention:

Enhanced System Support – To support the widest range of current Microsoft products, version 6.20 now supports:

  • Windows 11
  • Windows Server 2022
  • Office 2021*

For further details about ‘Link Share’ which was introduced in version 6.19, please see our previous blog HERE

As always INVU is a free of charge upgrade for all customers with an active InvuCare agreement. It should be noted that only the current and two previous release versions are fully supported / maintained by INVU. An installation of version 6.17 or earlier will no longer receive any quality or issue resolution fixes, the expectation would be to upgrade to a later version before continuing any investigation or providing a resolution.

*Whilst INVU now supports Office 2021, there is a known Microsoft issue that affects both Office 2021 & Office 365 whereby Excel documents are not able to be viewed using the Web browser controls. We are currently working with Microsoft for a permanent resolution, but to help mitigate this issue please see the changes implemented for SER-747**.

**SER-747: Implemented the ability to view just Excel documents (applies to xls & xlsx only) in the Invu viewer using the ‘Document Preview’ functionality to mitigate a known Microsoft issue preventing Excel documents from being viewed in a browser control. A new setting called ‘Use document preview functionality to view Excel documents’ has been added to Global Settings > General to control this
