Docuware release v7.9

DocuWare LogoAs we officially enter autumn 2023 in the northern hemisphere, DocuWare have released the latest update to their evolving and improving document management platform. With version 7.9 comes the usual raft of minor enhancements but specifically for this release, a focus on table data processing:

  • DocuWare Forms now supports tables to simplify the entry of structured data
    • Form users can easily enter data in a structured format

    • Structured data can be easily processed in automated workflows

  • Importing XML invoices, line items can now be imported into index tables
    • All item data from e-invoices are automatically captured

    • Automatic processing in workflow

    • No manual work – eliminate data entry errors

Furthermore, alongside the powerful arithmetic functions added for automatic forms calculations (introduced v7.8), enhancements to the workflow now allows matching between different table sources and supports greater tolerance for deviations (such as OCR issues) and therefore provides more robust and efficient automation.

A complete guide to the new features and those in previous versions can be found here in DocuWare’s own knowledge centre. For advice on progressing an on-premise upgrade (see below) and / or making use of some of the latest features, please contact PacSol support.

For DocuWare Cloud customers, the update to 7.9 and access to all the new features is either scheduled or will be in the coming weeks. Please keep an eye out for the communication from DocuWare confirming your instance time slot as it will include a short outage - you may need to reschedule overnight tasks to avoid it.

For customers running a DocuWare on-premise platform, upgrades can be performed directly from versions as early as 7.4, however there are some notes of caution before planning the upgrade:

  • As of version 7.8, support for the following operating systems is no longer available (in line with Microsoft’s own end of life policies):
    • Windows 8.1
    • Windows 10 21H1
    • Windows Server 2012R2
  • DocuWare 7.9 will be the last version that can use Oracle as a database.

Support for DocuWare 7.9 will continue as usual for three years, until approximately September 2026. Upgrades for Oracle-based systems as well as extending existing systems with additional servers are currently still supported. There will be an Oracle to MSSQL migration tool available later in 2023.

At PacSol, we would always advise that a system under maintenance should be kept within 2 versions of the latest to guard against potential issues caused by patching or security and as an active DocuWare customer, you are entitled to run the latest version. Please contact PacSol support for further advice.
