Just because you can, should you?

Whilst strolling through the Cotswolds a few days back, taking some precious time away from family life with my wife (first time in 2 years), we started discussing the reasons behind taking certain actions. Inspired by “How to live plastic free” by the Marine Conservation Society (which I am currently reading), we were discussing ideas around the building work due to commence at home. Given that both of us work in IT service and solution delivery, inevitably some working examples came up.

An extreme example of this concept would be if you stood at the top of a cliff by the sea – you could jump off this 50ft cliff, there is no fence in the way, the sea water below certainly appears calm and deep enough with easy access to get out again but should you – Is it worth the risk? What would you actually gain from jumping? What happens after you get out?

Strolling through the rolling hills, we decided many don’t apply this simple litmus test in life these days and it would very quickly highlight the positive decisions from the negative. Of course a more complex business project might require time and specialist expertise to reach a conclusion but the simple question is the same, “I could do this but should I?”

And this is where we at PacSol come in, to help you work through the questions and provide answers concerning document management, automated processing, workflow and data governance that not only clarify what should be done, but where beneficially you could go further – whether to improve time savings, costs, system efficiency or customer satisfaction. So whilst you start to consider what you could do, let me try inspiring you with a few examples:

  • Should we optimise our capture process to automate data capture and improve accuracy?
  • Should we investigate if our suppliers / customers can now provide all correspondence digitally?
  • Should we review our document / data retention policies?
  • Should we automate our Accounts Payable?
  • Should we review potential platform integrations to avoid double entry and improve efficiency?
  • Should we introduce other departments to the document management platform and streamline the company’s data storage practises?
  • Should we identify our slowest, most manually intensive document processes and find a way to radically improve them?
  • Should we overcome our natural instinct to resist change?
  • Should we get in touch with Toby at PacSol for a no obligation, free chat about the possibilities with the platform / tools already available to us as a business?

I’ll let you decide the right answer…
